What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Artist Residency
PSA-MS encourages artwork and curatorial or writing projects that create articulations about the Deep South, including Mississippi’s and Louisiana’s histories of conflict and adjustment between Old and New World societies and Europeans’ early relationship with the indigenous populations. Projects about the ongoing African-American struggle to achieve full participation in American society are especially welcome.
Activities are based in the residency facilities with excursions to regional cultural centers that may include Jackson, the state capital (Mississippi Museum of Art, the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion, the Old Capitol Museum, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s campus, the International Museum of Muslim Cultures), Biloxi (Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art campus, designed by Frank Gehry, and Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis’ home and presidential library), and Natchez (Grand Village of the Natchez Indians and the Natchez Trace Parkway).
Exhibitions
In Our Time is an expression that suggests a quality, the character of, or attitude about life in the here and now. In Our Time includes you–in a place, a town, a landscape, a nation, a culture, a people, and a greater society. In Our Time also evokes histories, experiences, perspectives, or stories that are shared or common between you and others. Art is the messenger that relates you to a community–actual and envisioned– through affirmation or critique of something, or invention. The destination is Summit, a growing arts community in rural southwest Mississippi, with a rich history and landscape that means many things to many people. This is what we ask you to think about. It’s also what makes the Pike School of Art—Mississippi open call exhibition different, experimental, and you-and-destination-specific.
Community Programs
We are always looking for more opportunities to bring art to life in our community! If you are part of a local school, business, or organization and would like to partner with PSA-MS, please contact us with your suggestions or questions at [email protected].
Local arts and cultural organizations in Southwest Mississippi which we have worked with include Pike County Arts Council, Pike County Little Theatre, Southwest MS Art Guild, Jubilee Performing Arts Center, Charles R. Crossley Memorial Art Gallery, Black History Gallery, The Summit Depot, and the McComb Railroad Depot Museum.

Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
