Establish an Urgent Care Facility
When I retired to Ocean Shores in June 2022 I knew that medical services were limited but fell in love with the peninsula anyway. Unfortunately, shortly after our move, I got an ear infection. The two major medical providers did not have any “new patient” appointments available for 10 weeks and the only urgent care available nearby is only for people of the Quinault Indian Nation. My only option was self-care, which required longer healing time, without access to antibiotics.
In addition, there is essentially one good road representing the shortest destination from Ocean Shores to a hospital. Which is about a 45-minute drive. With more than half of the population being seniors over age 62 a “local” urgent care facility could be life-changing if not lifesaving.
After my ear infection, I wondered if I could start an urgent care center myself. Many years ago, I worked for a group of doctors who started a medical clinic in Arvin, CA. so I have some history on what is needed.

Board Director/President
Janet Needham
My husband and I retired in 2022 and moved from Bakersfield, CA to Ocean Shores, WA for the better air quality, cooler climate, wildlife, beautiful trees, and the ocean. Shortly after moving, I got an ear infection. Ocean Shores currently has one doctor (SeaMar) with the next nearest medical care being in Aberdeen (Harbor Regional Health). Neither organization could get me in for medical treatment for a minimum of 10 weeks. I had the endure a lengthy recovery without antibiotics. This experience was the pivot point to put me on the journey of bringing more accessible medical care to the residents of Ocean Shores. My solution is Ocean Shores Urgent Care. Prior to retiring, I was an Admin Specialist 10+ yrs, HR 10+ yrs, Bookkeeper 20+ yrs, Accountant 4+ yrs. I sat on boards for a school district, the Bakersfield Boss Ladies, and for Northminster Presbyterian Church. I also helped a group of doctors start a rural clinic in Arvin, CA including setting up their prescription licenses.
