Canta! Radio Recuerdos: Sing-alongs for older, Spanish-speaking adults

Launched in August 2023, Canta Radio Recuerdos, is Sounds Good Choir's newest, engaging online sing-along program for Spanish-speaking and bilingual seniors in DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will, and Cook Counties. The free, live, hour-long Spanish sing-along offers a unique opportunity for Spanish-speaking and bilingual older adults to connect, reminisce, and experience all of the joy of singing from the comfort of their homes, and receive mental, emotional, and physical benefits that come from singing. In Spanish, with Spanish tech support and lyrics. Second hour for adults with memory loss. Led by the singer and guitarist Juan Dies, co-founder of the two-time Grammy-nominated Sones de Mexico Ensemble, and hosted by program assistant Alfredo Hernandez, Canta Radio Recuerdos invites participants to join in the musical festivities via Zoom. The live singalong celebrates Latin music classics from Mexico and other Latin American countries. Funded by AgeGuide.

With nine choirs in eight different locations, Sounds Good is the Chicago area's largest no-audition choral group for adults 55+. Choir members have fun singing with other adults while improving their overall physical, mental, and emotional well-being in a lively and welcoming environment. Because Sounds Good's mission is to promote joy and health through music, there are no auditions; all who want to sing are welcome, regardless of ability or experience. All choirs are led and accompanied by professional conductors and musicians. Each choir sings a repertoire of popular music in 3- and 4-part arrangements. Two 15-week sessions are offered in the spring and fall, with an 8-week session offered in the summer; and each choir performs a final, public concert. Choirs are located in Hyde Park, the Gold Coast, Edgewater, Evanston, Oak Park, Hinsdale, Arlington Heights, and Wheaton/Glen Ellyn. Reduced fees are always available.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
