Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rescue
Once a pug comes into rescue, we place the dog in a loving and experienced foster home. The foster evaluates the pug’s personality, interactions with other animals and people, and communicates with the rescue regarding medical care. Our pugs are seen by our veterinarian partners as soon as possible to get them up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm and Lyme tests, and to assess the need for any procedures such as spay and neuter, dental, or surgery. Veterinarians, fosters, and coordinators work together to ensure the pug has all of the treatment(s) and attention needed to be happy and healthy in a loving forever home.
At times, a pug is determined to have extensive health issues. In some of those cases, the pug will be placed in a hospice foster home. All of these treatments are paid for the lifetime of his/her care entirely by rescue and the donations from our supporters.
Once a pug is ready for adoption, our coordinators work with the foster family to determine the best adopti

- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
