Rescue

Once a pug comes into rescue, we place the dog in a loving and experienced foster home. The foster evaluates the pug’s personality, interactions with other animals and people, and communicates with the rescue regarding medical care. Our pugs are seen by our veterinarian partners as soon as possible to get them up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm and Lyme tests, and to assess the need for any procedures such as spay and neuter, dental, or surgery. Veterinarians, fosters, and coordinators work together to ensure the pug has all of the treatment(s) and attention needed to be happy and healthy in a loving forever home.
At times, a pug is determined to have extensive health issues. In some of those cases, the pug will be placed in a hospice foster home. All of these treatments are paid for the lifetime of his/her care entirely by rescue and the donations from our supporters.
Once a pug is ready for adoption, our coordinators work with the foster family to determine the best adopti

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

APR’s mission is to rescue, foster, rehabilitate, and find homes for surrendered, unwanted, abandoned, and discarded pugs throughout the Appalachian region. Our group lovingly provides medical care, food, comfort, and a secure home for pugs who have been let down and let go. We have a thorough adoption process through which we match these furkids to their forever homes.
