Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Founded in 1993, Vista Academy is a nonprofit organization comprising a dedicated group of parents, teachers and administrators who raise money and coordinate volunteers for programs and events that support Vista Academy’s mission to nurture the intellectual, artistic and social potential in every child.

Vista Academy Foundation works directly to support the community of Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, a public, IB (International Baccalaureate), magnet school in the Vista Unified School District. Vista Academy provides tuition-free, arts-integrated education for grades K-5th. Initially created as an arts-focused support group, Vista Academy Foundation has grown over the years through the feedback of the school community to enrich and support all aspects of education for students while remaining committed to an arts-integrated approach.

Arts enriched education instills thinking, innovation, confidence, and collaborative problem-solving skills that are increasing valuable in the expanding digital age. The generosity of our business sponsors and community make it possible for us to nurture future generations of critical and creative thinkers!

Vista Academy Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization utilizing several fundraising methods to support its mission. With a large percentage of the population qualifying for Free and Reduced Price Meals (FRPM), Vista Academy Foundation strives to find financial support in various ways to alleviate financial burdens for lower income families. Every year, a donation drive is launched in which one hundred percent of the money raised goes directly back into school programs supported by the Foundation. The Foundation coordinates with outside business agencies for sponsorships, charitable donations and with fundraising such as with community Dine-Out nights at local restaurants who donate a percentage of profits back to the school. Several large fundraising events are held throughout the year, including a jog-a-thons and art merchandising made from student artwork. These fundraisers help support the contributions of Vista Academy's students, increasing sense of confidence in learned skills and self-worth in contributing to the helping their school community. Fall and Spring After-School Conservatories, funded by Vista Academy Foundation, hold several performances throughout the year, selling tickets and merchandise helping to fund the events the following year. Students can again showcase the skills they have nurtured while raising the funds to help future students engage in arts enrichment. The Foundation also launches Press Releases for productions to encourage outside community attendance. Various small-scale fundraisers, including Adopt-a-class, Recycling program and Box Tops for Education are utilized year-round to increase funds. The Vista Academy Foundation has a set Grant Committee to identify and apply for grant opportunities throughout the year while identifying areas where community resources can be used to reduce costs. Examples include Title 1 funding opportunities for field trips, local programs that offer reduced prices for assemblies and school tours. Additionally, the foundation is exploring new and innovative methods of passive fundraisers such as Shutterfly Storefront for the organization in order to fundraise through services already utilized by members of the community and requiring zero overhead costs or man hours needed.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
