Museum Operation

Sharing the history of our district in eastern Washington through exhibit galleries, photos, hands-on experiences, and sound.  There are activities directed at children, young people, adults and seniors.  The collections are also made accessible to researchers.

Developing public online map of historical places in our districts with media to engage people with our history outside of the walls of the museum. Through research, images, and recollections we are creating stories about buildings, institutions, and places. The project starts with Cheney and will expand to the other communities in our district.

Joan Mamanakis

Coming from the financial services and information technology fields, Joan joined the museum in 2004 in response to a disaster event. She became the co-director, specializing in technology, research, and publications in 2006. Joan has edited two books and authored a third on the history of Cheney and its pioneers, as well as writing a weekly article for the local newspaper on historical events. Joan also is the registrar, overseeing cataloging of the collection, as well as new acquisitions. She lead the team to create exhibits, creates guides for volunteers for visitor and children's tours, publishes the newsletter and email newsletter, and maintains website, Facebook page, drafts policies, researches history, and assists with research inquiries.
