What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

NCWCA Mentorship Program

NCWCA pairs five experienced NCWCA members with 5 emerging Bay Area female-identifying artists, curators, art teachers, art historians, and/or aspiring gallerists. Mentor pairings will last six months from January to June so mentors and mentees have a chance to establish a meaningful one-on-one relationship. Mentorship goals will center around artistic critique, professional practices, goal-setting, networking, and the like.

We believe that introducing emerging women artists to experienced role models will help the mentees achieve a rewarding career in the arts. Of course, mentoring is a two-way street and our mentors will have lots to learn from the pairing as well.

As an interdisciplinary artist, she has participated in many activist-themed exhibitions, ranging in subject matter from immigration, reproductive rights, women’s rights, to politics. Otani received her BA in Psychology and Asian Studies from Mills College in 1974 and MA in Japanese Literature from Columbia University in 1976.
