Mission

Patches Place Cat Rescue provides a temporary home for stray/unwanted/abandoned cats and kittens until they are adopted into permanent loving homes.  All cats receive a complete vet check, medical treatment if required, testing for FeLV/FIV, worming, vaccinations, spay/neuter if required and are microchipped.   Lincoln County has an overpopulation problem with too many feral and free roaming cats, the only way to solve the problem is through spaying and neutering. To address this issue we are researching grants, fundraising and make appointments and transport cats to the North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic in Huntsville, AL.

Notes from the nonprofit

We are a small cats only rescue, all cats and kittens receive a complete vet check, tested for FeLv/FIV, vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

We have limited space and the need in this area far exceeds our capacity. Since we can only help a limited number of cats/kittens we have purchased 2 humane cat traps to assist those in areas with a large feral and/or free roaming cat problem due to cats being abandoned without being spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering is the only way to end the cat over population problem.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Wellness

The Wellness program covers all required vaccinations, worming and treatment for other injuries and illnesses as required.  It also includes an initial vet check for every cat/kitten that enters Patches Place as well as testing for FeLV and FIV.

Population(s) Served
Adults

All cats and kittens at Patches Place are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.  We feel this is a key part of our program to help lower the number of unwanted cats and kittens in our area. We also transport feral/stray and owned cats to the North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic for Lincoln County residents. The local spay neuter clinic is closed so this allows residents to get their cats spayed without losing time from work. We also have 5 cat traps and a drop trap we loan to help residents trap feral cats. This helps to reduce the over population of cats in this area.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to increase our adoption rate for cats and kittens in order to help more cats and kittens in need of temporary homes. This year we more than doubled our adoption rate and would like to increase our adoptions this year.

Our available cats and kittens are listed through Petfinder, Petstablished and Adopt-A-Pet, and nearly all of our adoptions are a direct result of these listings. We have a Facebook page where we post kittens/cats for adoption and notifications of special events as well as a new web page. Additionally, we have the cat habitat at the local Petco; we are also there for four hours most Saturdays. We will have a booth at Host of Christmas Past in November to bring awareness of our Rescue to area residents and sell home made items as a fund raiser.

As a Petco Partner we receive donations from the Petco foundation. We are enrolled in Amazon Smile and iGive to help with funding. We participated in the Big Payback last year and will participate this year as well. We will apply for grants as they become available including On Shore, ASPCA, Oxbow, etc. We were also awarded a grant from the Onshore Foundation to help with veterinary expenses in 2016. We were also approved for the Bissell Partners for Pets program. We will continue to pursue grants and other funding opportunities as they become available.

As of Dec -2018 we have placed 45 cats/kittens into permanent homes since our beginning, 17 of those were in 2017. Our goal is to increase the number of adoptions to at least 25 per year. As of the end of October we have placed 14 cats/kittens into permanent homes.
