Capuchin Community Services
Based on Gospel values, Capuchin Community Services addresses basic human needs, especially the need for food, through its two Milwaukee locations: The House of Peace and Saint Ben's Community Meal.
The House of Peace assists families and individuals in meeting spiritual, material and emotional needs. House of Peace helps families remain together while promoting self-sufficiency, providing food, clothing and pastoral care. In addition, the House of Peace is home to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Community Wellness Center and the Marquette University Volunteer Legal Clinic.
Saint Ben's Community Meal is Milwaukee's longest-running community meal, founded in 1970. Dozens of organizations, including faith communities, neighborhood groups and companies, provide hot, homemade dishes six days a week to everyone who comes, no questions asked. Other programs include shower, laundry and barber services, as well as emergency clothing and hygiene supplies and a winter warming center.
Capuchin Retreat Center
Capuchin Retreat is a center of Franciscan spirituality and retreat situated on 95 wooded acres in Washington Township, Michigan.
Through weekend retreats, mornings of reflection, spiritual direction and other programs, Capuchin Retreat affords an opportunity to escape the busyness of daily life to find solace and encounter with God and creation through quiet prayer and reflection.
Lodging facilities include 47 rooms with 57 beds, and The Hermitage, a free-standing guest house separate from the main retreat house. Morning Mass, adoration and reconciliation are available in the Chapel. Our gift shop offers a variety of books, rosaries, art and other devotional items for sale.
Solanus Casey Center
The Solanus Casey Center is a pilgrimage site that connects visitors to their Christian faith through the example of St. Francis of Assisi, the Gospel of Jesus and as lived by the humble doorkeeper of St. Bonaventure, Blessed Solanus Casey (1870-1957). The Center includes the tomb of Blessed Solanus Casey, the Creation Garden based on St. Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Creatures, a museum, gift shop and café, and reconciliation chapel.
The Solanus Casey Center opened in 2002 and was rededicated in December 2022 with a major expansion and renovation following the beatification of Blessed Solanus Casey.
The Solanus Casey Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The Center is closed on Mondays and on major holidays.
