What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Suits for Success
"Suits for Success” is one of our community outreach solutions that encourages young men to break the cycle of poverty; mentally, physically and spiritually. In addition to physically equipping each young man with apparel and accessories, our authentic manhood programs, career development tools and resources, and our network of support will equip, empower and encourage young men to thrive in work and in life!”
We conduct workshops to promote a professional mindset and provide professional attire to economically disadvantaged young men. After completing the workshop, MBK provides each participant with professional attire to secure employment, but "Suits for Success” is much more than simply a new outfit!
The Manny Awards Dinner
Since the founding of My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond in 2009 and the establishment of its "33 the Series” workshops, I’ve encountered any number of men whose lives have inspired me.
These are men have often traveled an arduous path, filled with economic hardship, relationship dilemmas, and spiritual obstacles. They have stepped out on faith to begin a journey toward being the men that God intended them to be.
The Manny Awards Dinner, an event hosted by My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond was created to spotlight these unsung men in Richmond. They are not the men who dont' seek to be celebrated or praised but stand in the gap because it's the right thing to do!
24/7 DAD Fathering Program
24/7 Dad is the leading evidence-based national fatherhood program and is used by thousands of organizations across the nation to develop pro-fathering knowledge, attitudes, and skills of dads of all races, religions, and demographics. The program is built on the basis that fathers can be nurturers, and for men, nurturing is a learned skill. Throughout the program, men examine their developmental history, learn the 5 characteristics of a 24/7 Dad, and other important skills such as working with mom and proper child discipline to help them be the best dads they can be.
Independent research shows that 24/7 Dad creates statistically significant changes in pro-fathering knowledge, attitudes, and skills for fathers who participate in the program compared to fathers who don't participate in it. In, fact, the program has undergone the most rigorous of evaluations -- random assignment.
Inside Out DAD Fathering Program
Inside Out Dad® gets rave reviews from inmates and facilitators alike. When incarcerated fathers are given the vision that they play a unique and irreplaceable role in their children's lives, hearts change, men change - families' and children's lives change. Fathering handbooks are used by dads in class and kept as a reference.
Join the thousands of jails, prisons, and reentry programs across the nation using Inside Out Dad® to give incarcerated fathers the tools they need to become involved, responsible, and committed fathers.
Inside Out Dad® is an evidence-based program, proven to develop pro-fathering attitudes, knowledge, and skills, giving fathers the necessary strategies to prepare them for release. The core program sessions feature unique exercises and research-based tools and techniques to encourage fathering from the inside. The optional reentry sessions help fathers prepare for responsibilities and challenges they will face on the outside.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
MBK helps men to engage with their family, friends and community in ways that are healthy, nurturing and consistent.\r\n\r\nIt seeks to engage men in the application of practical life and fatherhood skills through classroom instruction that leads to stronger families and community. \r\n\r\nIt encourages men to connect with their family and community in ways that are counter-intuitive to most of us in order to maintain healthy relationships. \r\n\r\n We work with individuals, families, churches, schools, community and governmental agencies to promote responsible manhood and fathering instruction that leads to healthy families.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
MBK provides fathers life and parenting skills utilizing the Fatherhood Fatherhood Initiative\u0027s 24/7 DAD and Inside Out DAD Curriculums: A Curriculum for Young Fathers developed by the National Partnership for Community Leadership. It focuses on self-knowledge, developing life skills such as decision-making, communication, building healthy relationships and responsible parenting.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We offer a new way of thinking about solutions to improving child health and well-being, and reducing poverty and social disparities in Central Virginia by strengthening the ability of fathers and mothers to work cooperatively together to raise their children.\r\n\r\nWe have certified trained facilitators in the areas of fatherhood development, trauma-informed care and co-parenting navigation. As an intermediary, MBK promotes and influences community resources among and between partners.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As of 2014, over two hundred fathers have completed and graduated from the program. We have published 20 manhood chronicles articles and have awarded over 30 awards to positive males in the community. We have provided business attire for over 175 men including giving away almost 500 suits, numerous shirts and ties, and toiletries.

- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
