Programs and results
What we aim to solve
There are an estimated 143 million orphans in the world. Many of these children, particularly in third-world nations, are children with special needs. They may be HIV Positive, suffer from diseases such as Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy, are blind, or were born into extreme poverty that has taken its toll on their small bodies. These are conditions that are treatable in the United States, but they are death sentences for their home countries. For many, adoption is literally the difference between life and death. The sad fact is that prospective parents with the means to adopt usually do not desire Special Needs children, whereas prospective parents who are willing to open their hearts and homes to a Special Needs child often do not have the financial means. The cost of such an international adoption is often $25,000.

Context Notes
Each number here is a child who has been saved, by being taken in by a loving family, and also by getting access to life-saving medications that are not available or affordable in their own country.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Rollstone Foundation aims to assist prospective adoptive parents by awarding monetary grants—allowing the new parents to rescue the child from almost certain death, and move them into a loving adoptive home.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our Strategy is simple. Provide as many grants as we can based on the amount of available funds we have raised to sponsor as many adoptions as possible. Over the years this has been accomplished by hosting a dinner with donors, potential donors and asking for monetary support on an annual basis. This has proven to be quite successful for over ten years.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
A large annual fundraiser is held to raise the funds which will be distributed to the following year's grant recipients.
Smaller events are held throughout the year (Fat Tuesday) as well.
We have no overhead-no offices, no paid employees, no infrastructure, so our cost of running the organizations is extremely low.
Our website is a year-round method of outreach to our donors and prospective donors to connect them with our Grantee's stories and accept donations on a one-off basis.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 2013, Rollstone Foundation has made 339 direct grants to new parents totaling more than $650,000.00 for support of newly adopted special needs children. This money has gone to purchase things such as medication for chronic illnesses such as AIDS.
The Pandemic has created challenges for us over the last two years. We were forced to cancel our largest in-person fundraiser. Travel restrictions also made adoption from overseas more difficult. We fully anticipate the coming year to result in significantly higher fundraising as well as returning to historically higher counts for adoptions.

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
