Solar Microgrid Electricity in Haiti

EarthSpark pioneered 'smart' solar-powered community electricity systems called 'microgrids' in Haiti starting in 2012. After turning on the country's first 'town-sized, solar-powered smart grid in 2015, EarthSpark turned on microgrid #2 in 2019 and currently holds provisional approval from the government to expand this affordable, reliable electricity service to an additional 22 towns in the next 5 years.

Local electricity powered by solar energy means communities are less vulnerable to natural disasters and other disruptions. Alongside the microgrid development, EarthSpark works with communities to ensure local energy governance, local business support, and an overall 'feminist electrification' approach that ensures that women and men are equal participants in the new power systems. Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
