Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Alternative Resources of the Triad aims to bring awareness to the LGBTQIA+ community in Greensboro, NC, and surrounding areas. We want people to be able to feel like themselves during our festival. It is our goal to bring the LGBTQIA community together along with the greater Greensboro community for a week of fun, friendship, festivities, and more. In addition to our Greensboro Pride Festival, we want to bring the LGBTQIA community together for events throughout the year. We are looking at partnering with more organizations both in and outside of the LGBTQIA community for more events.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our festival continues to grow each year with our boots on the ground approach. Our board is all-volunteer and there are no paid employees at Alternative Resources of the Triad. Our board members work tirelessly to connect with members of the community and sponsors for our festival. We have grown a number of contacts over the years and are working to reach new organizations that might support our festival or other events. Additionally, we are working toward increasing our partnerships with community organizations through networking, cold calling, and using our contacts to find the right people to work with Alternative Resources fo the Triad.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our board members are incredibly hard-working. We are in a process of growth and restructuring that will help us better meet the needs of our growing organization and the community-at-large. Our board members work hard to connect with the right sponsors, donors, vendors, and community members. Additionally, we have been building out our website to provide better, easier-to-access information, and have recently added in the capability of collecting email addresses in order to start an email list. As we bring on new board and committee members, we are looking for people who can fill specific needs within our organization so that we may continue to grow and accomplish our goals in a strategic manner.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our first Pride festival attracted about 6 vendors and 400 guests. In the years since that first festival in 2006, we have grown to more than 160 vendors, 50 performers, and more than 18,000 guests. Instead of locating in a small park, the Greensboro Pride Festival now takes over one of the main streets in downtown Greensboro, closing the road for our all-day event. Additionally, Alternative Resources of the Triad is working with other organizations in the community to provide and/or assist with events throughout the year, including the quarterly Drag Queen Bingo, an event that Alternative Resources of the Triad produces in conjunction with the Guilford Green Foundation.

Equity strategies
Last updated: 08/14/2021GuideStar partnered with Equity in the Center - an organization that works to shift mindsets, practices, and systems to increase racial equity - to create this section. Learn more
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
