What we aim to solve
Many needs in the community are overlooked because there isn't a central point for people in the community to come to when needs arise. These isn't a central collection point for resources that are available in the community. People with resources often don't now the needs that exist and vice versa. Many times, the senior population is impacted by this disconnect. The lack of connection within the community often affects seniors and those with low income, especially children.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Walking With Swager strives to provide opportunities for community partnership. Often the needs of the community are not readily known. Volunteer opportunities are missed because of a information is slow or lacking. Through coordinated efforts with local officials and agencies, we provide volunteer opportunities throughout the year, especially during times of disaster.
Whether the entire community is affected or a select few, connecting the need to the resource is our goal, both man power and/or physical resources.
Part of response is preparation. To that, we provide training opportunities preparing families and individuals to assist those in need during disasters. Through classes intended to train volunteers for service and others designed to help the individual be self-sufficient in times of disaster, we equip the community for unexpected circumstances.
We also desire to see people achieve their goals. Through Life Plan Workshops, we help individuals put action to their dreams.
We strive to see the barriers to unity throughout the community broken down.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Walking With Swager provides training through partnerships with local agencies. From resume preparation and Life Plan Workshops to volunteer training and disaster preparedness classes, we help people step into opportunities with a plan and a knowledge base.
We then connect trained individuals to opportunities for community service. Partnerships with government agencies like Parks and Recreation, local Fire Departments, and Police Departments help us bring the need together with the resources available.
We also look to connect the generations by providing opportunities for intergenerational interaction. We think of these times as wisdom sharing opportunities.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Walking With Swager's Executive Director has over 20 years of experience coordinating volunteers in daily service opportunities as well as directing emergency relief responses throughout the southeast following natural disasters.
Through networking and partnership with local non profits, churches, businesses, and government entities, we help to coordinate the need to the resource.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been able to see many of our goals met, but ongoing efforts continue.
In 2017 we completed twelve engagements. In 2018 that number increased to nearly twenty. In 2019, over 30 projects completed. As of spring 2020, we have nearly meet that same number through partnerships responding to multiple events impacting our community (tornado, fires, pandemic).
Multiple class opportunities were also made available to the community in 2019.
In 2020, we are working on an after school volunteer program and a community garden program while continuing our current programs.
