Mission

We believe that all pets and people deserve access to veterinary care. We spread social innovation through a national training network that mentors and supports veterinary clinics and professionals on proven, practical business tools and techniques to expand care for their clients and communities while still being able to earn revenue and be sustainable. We engage in innovation, research and collaboration to remove barriers to obtaining and providing accessible veterinary care. We work to open the doors to access to care in communities nationwide.

Mentorships to Expand Care

Our national training program works with private veterinary clinics, non-profit organizations, funders and corporate medicine programs to enable sustainable access to veterinary care offerings in any community.

Pet Help Finder is an easy to use, nationwide USA and Canada locator for Financially Friendly pet services connecting pet families with veterinary care, pet food & supplies and other pet services such as crisis fostering / temporary boarding, behavior help, transportation assistance and other pet services. As of Spring 2023, PetHelpFinder.Org, has more than 4,400 fixed location providers, vaccine clinics, pet food pop-ups and funders to support pet families and is growing daily. The site is free to use and free to be listed on and is a key part of Open Door's efforts to community building in the access to veterinary care and pet care space to bridge barriers, identify needs and highlight bright spots.

Open Door Veterinary Collective works across fields to build programs and innovate solutions to access to veterinary care as well as conducts important research in these programs and in the veterinary field to identify solutions. The organization published a peer reviewed paper on the impact of expanded payment options in the veterinary industry to bridge financial gaps in access to care, the top barrier reported (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fvets.2022.895532/full) . The organization has ongoing research and programmatic efforts to explore solutions in veterinary care delivery, community partnerships, funding structures and initiatives to bridge other barriers such as transportation.

Open Door Veterinary Collective has developed an online training and certification course in access to veterinary care. This course offers practical business tools and approaches to enable the expansion of accessible veterinary care while supporting clinics in sustainable revenue generation. Open Door Veterinary Collective is committed to expansion of care for all pet families while assuring the veterinary industry is able to earn net positive revenue. Open Door Veterinary Collective's ultimate goal is to have this course made available to all veterinary students at no charge. In pursuit of that goal, the organization, thanks to its funders, has more than 150 scholarships it is giving out for veterinary students in year one.
