What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The ACKCS Rescue Trust is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. The Trust was\norganized to provide a cohesive nationwide network of rescue volunteers who love the Cavalier\nbreed and are committed to its continued well-being. \nWe rehome and rehabilitate any Cavalier in need of a second chance in life through our foster home network. The dogs can come to us from owner surrender, strays and from shelters. We often get Cavaliers needing immediate and urgent medical needs addressed and we provide the medical treatment they need to save their lives on their journey to a forever home. Education is also another need we fulfill. By educating the owners of options they have to address medical or behavior issues we are able to work with the owner to keep their loved companion. We always keep it all about the dogs, their needs are considered first and foremost.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The mission of the Trust is to work toward these objectives:\n• To accept Cavaliers whose owners can no longer keep them, Cavaliers who have been lost or abandoned, and to find responsible, stable, \n loving new homes for them.\n To rehabilitate Cavaliers before placement by providing necessary medical treatment and by providing training as needed to increase the \n chances of successful placement.\n• To place Cavaliers in suitable homes as soon as reasonably possible.\n• To inform prospective adopters about the rescue program and the requirements for caring for a Cavalier. \n• To assist current Cavalier owners with any issues that may arise in order to make it possible for the Cavalier to remain in the original \n home.

We are a nationwide all-volunteer organization with a volunteer network across the country. We have a centralized database that enables us to manage the dogs, volunteers, adopters and supporters from anywhere. We build a network within the community each volunteer services bridging relationships within the community with shelters, veterinarians, and Cavalier clubs are some of the relationships we have. These relationships allow us to take in Cavaliers who need a second chance. We also never begrudge or vindicate an owner surrendering their dog. It is all about the dog.

Our nationwide all-volunteer network makes our work of saving lives possible. Many of our volunteers not only love Cavaliers they also have in depth knowledge of the medical needs and issues with Cavaliers. Our organization is the only Cavalier rescue that is managed by Cavalier enthusiasts who are also Cavalier breeders with untold years of experience caring for Cavaliers.

The ACKCS Rescue Trust (The Trust) was founded in 2005. Prior to the formation of The Trust, rescue was handled by a committee of American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc. (ACKCSC), and the Regional Clubs. When the need for tax-exempt status with the IRS was recognized and the difficulty in obtaining liability insurance coverage for rescue became an issue, the ACKCS Rescue Trust was formed for Cavaliers in need of rescue. \n\nSince 2005, we have built our network of Area and State Directors and Coordinators and have evolved our technology to bring us efficiencies, an accomplishment that has been in the works and in our minds for a long time. Sadly, the number of Cavaliers we take into our programs increases annually. We work hard to provide the dogs with the best nurturing families so that they thrive and their new forever families also thrive with their new family member.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
