What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Election Protection
Free Speech For People works to challenge voter suppression and voter intimidation, the use of unreliable and insecure voting systems, and unequal voting conditions. With this work, we seek to amplify the voices and collective power of communities that have been historically disenfranchised and underrepresented in our democracy.
Getting Big Money Out of Politics
Founded on the day of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling, Free Speech For People has played a leading role in the movement to get big money out of politics for over a decade. To advance this core initiative, we challenge foreign-influenced corporate spending in elections, defend state campaign finance reform laws, and advance a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United ruling and reclaim our democracy.
Challenging Corporate Abuse of Power
Free Speech For People works to defend public interest laws, including environmental reforms, workers’ rights, and healthcare advocacy, threatened by corporate claims of constitutional rights and to ensure corporations are held accountable under the law.
Challenging Corruption
Free Speech For People challenges corruption at the highest levels of government and acts to ensure no one is above the law. We advance this initiative by holding elected officials accountable to the Constitution in the courts and in Congress.
Advancing Democracy Amendments
Free Speech For People has been at the forefront of the movement to amend the Constitution to reverse the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision since 2010 and supports a broad set of amendments to ensure that all Americans have an equal vote and equal opportunity to participate in our elections. Free Speech For People supports a series of Democracy Amendments to reclaim our democracy. These include: the Free and Fair Elections Amendment (drafted by Free Speech For People), People’s Rights Amendment, Right to Vote Amendment, Amendment to Abolish the Electoral College, and Equal Rights Amendment.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Free Speech For People works to renew our democracy and our United States Constitution for we the people. Founded on the day of the Supreme Courts Citizens United ruling, Free Speech For People envisions a democratic process in which all people have an equal voice and an equal vote.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We advance our mission with the following innovative, effective, and complementary strategies:
We fight for the right to vote; for free and fair elections, for reliable and secure voting systems, and for the bedrock promise of political equality for all;
We draft and promote key constitutional amendments to restore our democracy by establishing a constitutional right to vote, majority rule (one person-one vote) in the election of the president and vice president, and a constitutionally-mandated public campaign finance system and strict limits on private political contributions and spending; eliminating the judicially fabricated doctrine of corporate constitutional rights; and implementing the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment;
We engage in legal advocacy in the courts to advance a new jurisprudence on money in politics and to confront the misuse of the U.S. Constitution to claim corporate exemptions from our laws;
We develop and advocate for model laws and other tools to challenge big money in politics and to make corporations responsible to the public; and
We challenge corruption at the highest levels of our government and lead bold campaigns for accountability under the law.

Free Speech for People Inc
Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
