Mission

The mission of Visuality is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer plus communities and our allies by providing activities, programs, educational events and services that create community, empower community members, provide essential resources, advocate for civil and human rights; and embrace, promote and support out cultural diversity. We strive to end violence, harassment , and discrimination based on real or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or sexual expression.

Notes from the nonprofit

We are a community center without walls as we do not have a facility of our own. We are currently utilizing space that is available in the community. We received funding from Golisano Children's Hospital of SW Florida that enabled us secure a part-time youth program consultant and a part-time administrative consultant to support our youth program. Otherwise, Visuality only operates with volunteers and has since it’s inception in 2011. We are currently seeking a safe rental space for our programs which will be shared with other LGBTQ+ organizations in Lee County to give our organization the abiity to grow our services. In addition, we believe SW Florida requires a youth residential facility where those who require temporary emergency housing would be safe.

Data
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
