Mission

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation's leading voice for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women. Founded in 2007, NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for domestic workers, including over 10,000 nannies, housekeepers, and caregivers for the elderly across the country.

Notes from the nonprofit

Over 2 million women care for our nation's homes and families. Many of them are immigrant women and women of color. The work supports millions of people-- and yet it is some of the most invisible in our economy. Nannies, housekeepers, and home healthcare workers have historically been excluded from basic labor protections. Without these protections, many workers tolerate low or no pay and abusive situations.

We organize to achieve the dignity, respect and professionalism our work deserves!

Thank you for your support.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

We Dream in Black

We Dream in Black aims to strengthen and expand our base of Black domestic workers and amplify their historical and current contributions to the broader domestic worker movement.

Population(s) Served
Caregivers
People of African descent

NDWA is the home for domestic workers, giving them a space to share information, build skills with training and resources, access benefits, get support, and organize to win rights.

Population(s) Served

We develop new policies and we mobilize domestic workers, supporters and partners to organize and advocate for solutions that will improve working conditions and economic security for domestic workers and beyond.

Population(s) Served

Understanding domestic work and workers with data is a rapidly growing chatbot for Spanish-speaking domestic workers that enables real-time data collection and insight into domestic workers in the US. It builds comprehensive data set on domestic work, through chatbot conversations with a subscriber list of more than 200,000 Spanish-speaking house cleaners, nannies and homecare workers.

Population(s) Served

Voting is one way to reimagine a future that allows us all to live with dignity, safety, and respect. We work to educate and engage underrepresented women of color voters because we know that when women of color vote, we build a better world.

Turning out women of color voters
We created a voter information hub to make voting as easy as possible and to help women of color voters know their voter rights because everyone deserves to have their vote counted.

Fighting voter suppression
Democracy works when every voter has the opportunity to make our voices heard and our votes count. No one – and nothing – should make it hard for us to cast our ballots.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
