Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Vision Screening & Eye Care Grants

We provide eyecare Vision, and through our dozens of used glasses pickups, we have collected tens of thousands of glasses over the last few years. Those glasses, along with the glasses from over fifty other clubs in the area go to a processing center which catalogues, professionally cleans, and then distributes them to communities and partners in need. We also provide eye exams through our partnership with the nurses of Katy ISD, again, at little cost to the families.

Katy was founded by hard working visionaries who settled wild prairie, opened businesses, and created opportunity. In the spirit of our founders this scholarship is open to anyone who is seeking education to provide for their family, advance in their career, learn a trade or pursue higher education.

In partnership with the Katy Heritage Society, we award one scholarship annually to an individual who meets our eligibility requirements.

Participants must be enrolled or be seeking enrollment at an accredited community college, college, university, business, vocational, continuing education program or technical school and must reside or work within the geographic boundaries of the Katy Independent School District. While this scholarship is open to any age, it was distinctly created to provide an opportunity for adults or currently employed persons who wish to further their education. to advance their professional career or improve opportunities for those seeking to provide income to

Where we work

How we listen

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Seeking feedback from people served makes programs more responsive and effective. Here’s how this organization is listening.

done We shared information about our current feedback practices.
  • Who are the people you serve with your mission?

The Katy Lions Foundation supports the work of the Katy Lions Club in giving back to the Katy, Texas community. This is achieved primarily through supporting young children with low-cost eye exams and glasses, sending disabled children to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville at no cost to them or their families, and other charitable activities in support of the community.

  • How is your organization using feedback from the people you serve?

To identify and remedy poor client service experiences, To identify bright spots and enhance positive service experiences, To make fundamental changes to our programs and/or operations, To inform the development of new programs/projects, To identify where we are less inclusive or equitable across demographic groups, To strengthen relationships with the people we serve, To understand people's needs and how we can help them achieve their goals

  • What significant change resulted from feedback?

With the most recent election, we have achieved a minority-majority board of directors, and we are also seeing significant involvement from younger individuals and younger professionals. This is a direct result of aggressive outreach to young professionals in the community.

  • Which of the following feedback practices does your organization routinely carry out?

We collect feedback from the people we serve at least annually, We take steps to get feedback from marginalized or under-represented people, We aim to collect feedback from as many people we serve as possible, We take steps to ensure people feel comfortable being honest with us, We look for patterns in feedback based on demographics (e.g., race, age, gender, etc.), We engage the people who provide feedback in looking for ways we can improve in response, We act on the feedback we receive, We tell the people who gave us feedback how we acted on their feedback

  • What challenges does the organization face when collecting feedback?

We don't have any major challenges to collecting feedback

Rev. Lion David Greene

Rev. Lion David joined the Katy Lions Club in 2020 and has served in leadership ever since. He has a background in communications and the non-profit world, which makes serving in his current capacity a natural fit. David is currently serving as President of the Katy Lions Club after previously serving two years as Vice President and Secretary. He is also in his third year as Communications Director. For the past two years, he also served as the District IT Chairperson. Since 2009, he has been a member of the Internet Society, which promotes an open global society. Starting his career in the non-profit world, Rev. David has served on the boards of directors for non-profits for over a decade. In 2020, he was invited to join the Katy Lions Club while in a fast-food drive-through and thought it was a great opportunity to step up his giving back. He is also an at large board member for a Belgian-based environmental non-governmental organization since 2022.

Data
  • We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
  • We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
