Mission

Nolan's H.E.R.O. Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to carry on the mission of Nolan Berthelette, a Pittsfield youth, who suffered a fatal brain aneurysm at the age of 14. Our goal is to raise awareness of brain aneurysms and to support those who are finding ways to be a H.E.R.O. (Helping Everyone Realize Opportunities) in the lives of others. We also want to inspire and encourage youth to participate in academics, exercise, music, sports, and a love for the outdoors and nature. These are all things Nolan loved and excelled in.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Brain aneurysms are often referred to as a silent killer or ticking time bomb. Many of us go our whole lives without know that we have an aneurysm. The only way to know for sure is with an MRI. If detected early, doctors can do something about it and save your life. Most of us know little about brain aneurysms until it effects us or someone we know and love. There are warning signs and things you can talk to your doctor about to reduce the risk. The general public needs to be better informed about these warning signs and risks.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We are aiming to educate the public on the warning signs and risks of brain aneurysms. We also donate to those who have a direct impact on brain aneurysm research.

We hold events such as our annual 5K to raise money, but also to educate those who attend.

We sell merchandise to raise money to put on events and to donate to the Maine Brain Aneurysm Association which goes directly to doctors and hospitals that conduct research.

We are looking to do more paid public appearances to speak about Brain Aneurysm Awareness, Organ Donation, H.E.R.O. (Helping Everyone Realize Opportunities), Overcoming Adversity, Determination, Seeing the Best in Situations and in Others, Motivational Speeches.

Our capabilities are limited due to our limited budget, being a new non-profit, and having limited exposure on a national level.

We are working to increase our visibility through the use of social media.

We have acquired merchandise which we sell and have events that bring in a little money each year.

We continue to acknowledge more H.E.R.O.'s each year and now have an interactive map on our web site where you can see where these H.E.R.O.'s live and why they were nominated.

We continue to grow our social media presence and following.

We have spoke at a couple public events.

Ray Berthelette

Nolan is not only my son, but a friend with whom I shared a close bond. We were so much alike, had so much in common and really understood each other. While my heart is, and will always be broken, I am commiting my life to fulfill all that Nolan stood for and to help make this world a better place. I love you Nolan!
