Mission

KC English Bulldog Rescue is a 501 (c) 3 organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs who have been surrendered by their owners, are in animal shelters or have otherwise found themselves homeless and in need. Our goal is to find permanent loving homes for these Bulldogs and Pugs, as well as educate the public about this wonderful breed.

Notes from the nonprofit

In recent years, KCEBR has taken in 75 to 100 bulldogs and pugs that need rescue. An average year of vet bills for the rescue amount to $125,000 to $150,000. The rescue takes these dogs into foster homes as there is no physical facility, evaluates their personalities and medical needs, then proceeds to get them healthy and ready for a forever home. Many thousands of dollars are spent to provide medical care, food, shelter, and training while the rescued Bulldogs are awaiting adoption. KCEBR receives all of these dogs as owner surrenders, breeder surrenders, and as strays from the local shelters. The average vet cost to get one of the bulldogs coming through KCEBR healthy is $1,000. These dogs often come into rescue overbred, with horrible allergy outbreaks and neglected vet care. KCEBR is 100% volunteer based with no paid employees. There are about 50-75 consistent volunteers that work tirelessly holding adoption events, transporting the bulldogs to vet visits, and working application

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Our biggest need is finding foster homes to accommodate the dogs that need to be surrendered as well as raising money to cover vet bills.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

KC English Bulldog Rescue

KC English Bulldog Rescue is a charitable organization relying upon public fundraising to obtain funds to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home English bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs. These activities are to facilitate the Veterinary care needed including spay and neuter and other medical care for these dogs. We maintain these dogs in foster homes during their evaluation and pre and post surgical care whenever possible. We will accept dogs from owner surrenders, Animal Shelters, Animal Control Facilities, Veterinary referrals and abuse and cruelty cases. We are here to help any Bulldog or pug in need of care and support. We then identify appropriate homes for these dogs, and monitor and support them in their new homes until end of life.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

KC English Bulldog Rescue is an organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes English Bulldogs who have been surrendered by their owners, are in animal shelters or have otherwise found themselves homeless and in need. Our goal is to find permanent loving homes for these bulldogs as well as educate the public about this wonderful breed.

We plan to accomplish our goal by working with private owners, local shelters and our volunteer network to identify and bring in bulldogs who are in need of rescue. Together with our veterinarians and our volunteers KC English Bulldog Rescue will address the medical and socialization needs of all the bulldogs who enter our care. Once the dogs are healthy (physically and mentally) KC English Bulldog Rescue will place them in pre-screened homes who are capable of caring for the needs of the dogs (both physically and mentally). We hope to use our platform to help educate current and future owners of the breed by sharing our knowledge, experience and expertise.

KC English Bulldog Rescue's capabilities will be enhanced by our experienced & knowledgeable volunteers who foster each of the adoptable dogs in their private homes, where the volunteers can better address any needs that the dog may have. KC English Bulldog Rescue will work hand in hand with our volunteers, veterinarians and trainers as needed to ensure that the dogs are getting the best care available.

Measurable progress can be tracked by the number of successful placements of adoptable dogs into permanent and loving homes. In August 2014 KC English Bulldog Rescue officially took in their first foster dogs. With only 4 months of the year remaining the rescue took in 10 dogs. In 2015 we took in 23 bulldogs; 2016 35 ,2017 46 and 2018 80. Progress moving forward would be to continue to take in, rehabilitate, and place dogs in homes at a similar rate. In 2020 and in the future KC English Bulldog Rescue hopes to participate in more educational outreach opportunities (health seminars hosted by one of our vets, meet and greets at local businesses, and perhaps participation in different "all breed" events) to help inform the public about our existence as well as educate people about the needs and requirements for this wonderful breed.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

Data
  • We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
