Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pre-Wean Kitten Project
Itty Bitty Orphan Kitty Rescue’s Pre-wean Kitten Project provides Pre-Wean Kitten Packs to members of the public who find orphaned kittens so that they can properly care for these kittens themselves rather than surrender them to a shelter where they will be euthanized. We currently distribute these packs free of charge through all 50+ Pet Food Express stores, as well as through Bay Area shelters. We are working to expand our project to help more of our Bay Area shelters to provide people with an alternative to surrendering pre-wean kittens to shelters.
Each Kitten Pack comes with instructions and emergency supplies so you can start caring for your kitten right away.
We have also produced our very own Raising Orphan Kittens DVD to include in the Kitten Packs! This instructional video will be available online very soon!

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to provide loving foster homes where "special needs" kittens can be given love, medical care, socialization, and attention that will ultimately lead to a successful adoption. We are actively involved in educating the public regarding spaying and neutering their pets and responsible animal guardianship. We also provide guidance and supplies on the care of pre-weaned kittens to the general public through our Pre-Wean Kitten Project. Our hope is to see the end of the routine euthanization of healthy adoptable kittens for lack of homes.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We recruit and train foster homes in the proper care of preweaned kittens and rescue kittens weighing less than a pound from shelters where they will be euthanized. We hold adoption fairs every weekend to find homes for these kittens when they reach an adoptable age and have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for any illnesses or injuries. We educate the public at these events on the proper care of kittens, the importance of spaying and neutering their pets, and responsible cat guardianship.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are an organization of experienced and educated cat lovers who are passionate about saving kittens' lives.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
TBD

- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
