Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Annual Student Shakespeare Festival
Beginning in 2006, each April, the Society produced the Student Shakespeare Festival in Balboa Park, near downtown San Diego, typically with 20-30 local schools participating, and in which elementary, middle, and high school students perform selections from the plays or sonnets, or offer other creative interpretations of Shakespeare's works. For 2020 and 2021, the festival has had to go online, but the 2022 festival was an in-person event. Our next festival is scheduled for April 15, 2023.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In serving our mission, we endeavor to:
• Foster learning and comprehension of Shakespeare’s works, their context, and how they relate to contemporary society;
• Involve the audience as active participants in the theatrical experience;
• Promote inclusivity and diversity throughout our programming, activities, and audience;
• Serve as an online gateway and curator for the greater San Diego Shakespeare community by advocating area productions, educational events, and other relevant activities.
