Mission

The Longevity Science Foundation (LSF) is a global non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by enthusiasts of Longevity science, and created to fund early-stage longevity research and development that is not yet fit for investment - a critically underfunded area. We aim to partner with the brightest minds at globally renowned universities to facilitate this crucial research. In a world where products and profit are often prioritized above true scientific research which ethically sparks innovation, our work is of chief importance. We are keenly focused on accessibility - our mission is to help extend the healthy human lifespan by making longevity-focused care accessible to everyone, no matter their background.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

University of Oxford Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics, Medical Sciences

Metabolic Mechanisms of Aging in the Heart - Novel Dietary Interventions for Enhancing Healthspan led by Pawel Swietach, Professor of Physiology, and co-supervised by Richard Siow, Visiting Professor in the same Department at Oxford and Director of Ageing Research at King’s College London (ARK). The Foundation’s grant, which forms a critical part of the study's overall budget, is being provided over a three-year period, beginning in 2024.

The research undertaken by Prof. Swietach’s team focuses on improving cardiac function to extend the human healthspan by studying the chemical modifications to molecules that regulate the heart. Sadly, about one in three deaths are related to heart disease. The team investigates how elevated methionine accelerates age-related heart dysfunction. They are testing whether metabolic changes can reverse these effects and studying its impact on cardiac function, metabolism, and methylation patterns to identify potential therapies.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

President & CEO

Joshua Herring

It is an honor to work at the Longevity Science Foundation (LSF), an organization charged with funding researchers studying aging, age-related, and chronic disease. I come from a family that has been stricken with health issues - both of my parents had cancer. Luckily, they have served, though I know not every child in a similar position is fortunate enough to be able to share that same story. My mission at the LSF is to provide critically underfunded researchers with the resources they need to continue pushing the Longevity medicine field forward, and enable more parents, children, loved ones, colleagues, and friends to life as healthily as possible for as long as possible. I come from a highly successful private asset management background working in finance and investment management for a Wall Street company. It is an honor to leverage those business development skills in an environment to which I feel so closely tied.
