Girls on the Run Michiana addresses the problem of lower-self esteem/lack of confidence in girls which results in part from socialization due to gender inequality and often leads to negative at-risk behaviors such as substance abuse, early sexual activity, depression/anxiety, and poor academic performance.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Girls on the Run Michiana
At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Girls on the Run Michiana aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident and to create a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Girls on the Run Michiana offers award-winning, research-informed programming led by well-trained mentor coaches who provide girls with concrete skills and tools to increase confidence. Girls also gain confidence through accomplishment as they work toward and complete a non-competitive 5K event.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Girls on the Run Michiana is uniquely capable to accomplish these things through a passionate and professional staff, active board, strong community volunteerism, robust and diversified financial support, and the availability of excellent resources from a network of Girls on the Run councils as well as Girls on the Run International. Resources include professional development, tools for marketing and access/inclusion, and sound research to demonstrate effective outcomes.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Launched in 2011 with just 12 girls, Girls on the Run Michiana now serves more than 1200 girls in over fifty schools every year. Middle school programming was recently added. A junior coach program for high school students, a summer day camp option, and a conversation-based program for women are all under consideration to support girls and women throughout the lifespan.

Girls On the Run Michiana
Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
Fiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30
This snapshot of Girls On the Run Michiana’s financial trends applies Nonprofit Finance Fund® analysis to data hosted by GuideStar. While it highlights the data that matter most, remember that context is key – numbers only tell part of any story.
