Evidence Based Multisensory Education

Started over 37 years ago, Prentice is an award-winning nonprofit private school designed for children with language-based learning disabilities, like dyslexia and co-occurring conditions, including ADHD. Our innovative, evidence based multisensory program is designed to prepare and empower our students for a life of self-advocacy, personal growth and the understanding that their differences can be their strengths.
By utilizing a multi-sensory teaching approach as our core instructional methodology we are able to teach your student in the way they learn. Our program strategies are applied in small groups, whole class, and school-wide learning. This helps students generalize their skills across classrooms and attain social skills. Because it's not limited to a specific curriculum, these techniques can serve an individual for a lifetime.

The Prentice School is an academic program is aligned with California State Standards. We are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges & are certified by the California Department of Education as a Nonpublic School. We are committed to small group instruction. Our class size doesn't exceed 12, & our faculty to student ratio is 6:1. To more fully address our students’ needs, students are placed into small learning groups based on their abilities and skill levels. This allows us to meet our students at their present level of performance to remediate foundational skills, build confidence & advance their academic, social & emotional success. These small groups also allow for increased engagement & more targeted intervention and instruction. Teachers at Prentice are fully credentialed in the subject areas they teach. Additionally, they are trained in the research-based Orton-Gillingham direct, systematic, sequential & multi-sensory instructional approach.

Mrs. Devon Green

Devon joined the Prentice team in the spring of 2014. Devon concurrently earned a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Loyola Marymount University in 2004. Devon also holds a Masters of Science in Special Education with a specialization in Mild to Moderate Disabilities and another specialization in Teacher Leadership. Devon spent the five years prior to Prentice as the Director of Education for Newport Academy, a program specializing in the treatment of at-risk adolescents. She is experienced in working closely with vulnerable students and families and is deeply sensitive to their needs, fears and concerns. Devon is sincerely invested in the social, emotional and physical well-being of the students and families with whom she interacts. As Head of School for The Prentice School, Devon is excited and grateful to be part of such a reputable organization with a mission statement she firmly believes.
