Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Youth Ambassador Squad
The Hive's Youth Ambassador Squad (YAS) is a part-time paid youth development opportunity for young people ages 15-21 who have navigated the justice system. Squad members participate in weekly life skill workshops, leadership training, and mentorship to assist them in reaching their own personal and professional goals.
Weekly case management helps YAS members to identify and work toward self-defined goals and connect to resources. Areas that we focus on include basic needs, court-mandated requirements, jobs and employment, mental health & substance abuse, transportation, and leadership.

Financial data
The Hive Mentality
Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31
This snapshot of The Hive Mentality’s financial trends applies Nonprofit Finance Fund® analysis to data hosted by GuideStar. While it highlights the data that matter most, remember that context is key – numbers only tell part of any story.

Principal Officer
Gina Lyles
Gina Lyles (she/her), artiste, emcee, and the Founder and visionary leader of The Hive. As a champion of juvenile justice reform, Gina used her years of experience both within the system and as a re-entry and engagement specialist to build The Hive’s programming model. In her previous role as Engagement Director for Performing Statistics Gina supported the human-to-human connections that grounded Performing Statistics by building authentic relationships with the youth, credible messenger mentors, and partners. Using her talents as a hip-hop emcee to connect with and empower young people caught in the school-to-prison pipeline, her work develops programs that empower, uplift, and build capacity in Richmond’s young community. Gina wants to create a sanctuary for young people trapped in gang violence, those losing hope, and disadvantaged youth who lack opportunities and also build spaces to support community leaders.
