Mission

Our mission is to both rescue and re-home pets in need. Our primary focus is to assist families looking for a pet that is not only happy and healthy, but a pet that can provide a therapeutic solution for emotional and physical ailments. Although we specialize in cats, we also custom search for dogs, guinea pigs and other pets for approved adopters. The heart and soul of our rescue is our motto “We Rescue Pets to Rescue People,” and we strive to spread this message with our many community outreach programs including cat therapy programs for all ages (like our nursing home Kitty Clubs), cat wellness programs (like our Kitty Yoga classes) and educational programs (like our Read to Kitty classes) and more!

What we aim to solve

What we have seen over the last 2+ years is an increasing need for some sort of help or treatment for people of all ages. It has been especially acute among teens and twenty somethings, and we know that covid has been the catalyst for much of it. We have seen a great increase in animals adopted for therapeutic reasons for young people that have suicidal thoughts, problems relating with people and many other difficulties. Therapeutic animal adoptions are needed now than they have ever been before. The reports we get from these placements demonstrate the positive power that these animals have and how much they can help with difficulties.

Therapeutic In Home Placement Program
Our rescue helps families choose the right therapy animal for lifelong comfort and support. With the permission of licensed social workers, psychologists, and psychotherapists, adopters can adopt these exceptional animals and utilize their love and affection to better psychological, intellectual and or physical challenges. Adopters can request a specific type of animal and we will work with them to find the right fit.

We are trying to help people cope with their lives a little better or a little easier than they had been before.

It started with feedback from our adopters. The stories that people started telling us about how our cats
have helped them heal just keep growing. The stories are too numerous. One example is a cat called
Beaver, born with a hole in her heart and it could die anytime. Beaver went to a family in with a six-year-old
son with terminal brain cancer. Beaver and the boy were both on borrowed time. After the passing of the
boy, “Beaver instinctively knew that she needed to be there for the boy’s father." Over time, Beaver began
gravitating toward the boy's stepmother. She had become pregnant. Beaver now sleeps in the crib with the
boy’s sibling.

There was another instance of a returning military veteran, Scott, AKA Cat Dad. Aside from his physical limitations, he suffers, like many veterans, with PTSD. We got the this from his wife.

From the first time Scott laid eyes on her, he knew that was going to be his kitty. In so many ways she has saved him. They have morning routines where she has “Daddy Play Time” while the coffee brews. When he leaves the house, she waits in the window for him to return. She knows when her Daddy is having a bad day and will demand love or playtime to make him feel better. She even pretends to be a gargoyle on the refrigerator, and will leap off the top and onto his shoulder. She truly has been a therapy animal and the sweetest companion for him. 

We promote the therapeutic value of our animals in many ways.

We have formal animal assisted therapy programs at nursing homes and a cancer center. We do reading to kitty classes for kids and are partnered with other organizations such as Pets For Patriots.

We are also in the process of purchasing a new facility which will allow us to create more programs in our very own “home” classroom for animal assisted therapy & community gathering spaces.

One of our directors is a holds a Masters in Social Work. She put us on the path to animal assisted therapy programs. We then expanded to formal partnerships with organizations who think like-mindedly.

We are currently engaged with some firms to become corporate sponsors of our animal assisted therapy programs.

Therapeutic adoptions are now near 10% of our overall animal adoptions.

We have increased the number of places we perform AAT to over a half dozen with more on the horizon.
