Mission

The mission of WWF is to empower the children of Santa Clara County to develop a life-long passion for science, engineering and environmental stewardship through the support of Walden West Outdoor School, a flagship environmental education program of the Santa Clara County Office of Education. The Foundation ensures equal access to this program to all students through tuition assistance and helps to create a robust program through improved facilities and program enhancements. By attending Walden West, area 5th & 6th graders gain increased knowledge about our natural world, learn social skills, and are inspired to be the next generation of environmental stewards.

Access to Environmental Education

Each year the Walden West Foundation supports nearly 6,000 fifth and sixth grade students who attend Walden West Outdoor School, 1000 high school students who are counselors during outdoor school, and 250 school teachers who attend outdoor school with their students. In addition, 1,000 children aged 5-12 and 50 teens who are counselors in training benefit from the Foundation support. Through tuition assistance, the Foundation makes it possible for children who might not otherwise be able to attend to benefit from this week-long, nature-based science education program. The Foundation works collaboratively with the Santa Clara Office of Education to direct funding where limited public funds and tuition do not reach.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
