What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

As a consequence of our culture's many labor saving devices, from shoes to chairs to cars, we tend to use our bodies in limited, mechanical ways; we stiffen ourselves, and move only one body part at a time, resulting in a range of dysfunctional physical ailments, from chronic to acute, that manifest as idiopathic pain in all areas of the body: from feet, ankles, knees, and hips to spine, chest, upper and lower back, shoulders, neck and jaw. With targeted self-care protocols Movement Intelligence employs sensory guided movement to improve the interdependent relationship among the many moving parts of the body, ensuring a healthy division of labor. In classroom and private instructional settings we not only help rapidly resolve many distressed areas throughout the human frame that have become painful due to misuse and overuse, but we also address longer term issues of balance, coordination, and bone health.

Bones for Life Day

Population(s) Served
Adults

The Foundation for Movement Intelligence offers annual “Spread the Work” grants whose purpose is to provide startup assistance to Teachers and Trainers of Movement Intelligence programs who wish to pursue innovative strategies and creative opportunities for outreach, and bring to our work greater public recognition.

Through these grants FMI hopes to encourage MI Teachers and Trainers to offer classes, workshops or clinics in venues such as libraries or other locations where remuneration may not be possible, or in facilities where initial rental fees may be prohibitive. We welcome application for these awards by any and all FMI Teachers and Trainers seeking to stimulate greater interest in Movement Intelligence as they bring our work out into their local communities.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Address postural misuse which, through common cultural misperceptions, has resulted in a wide range of inadvertently self-inflicted pain and suffering that is not only avoidable, but reversible. We believe aging need not be accompanied by physical deterioration.

Classes, personal instruction, online webinars, videos, DVDs and books are all educational means we use to help spread the word about practical ways to restore our innate mobility, and upgrade the quality of our everyday lives through optimal posture and movement Nature meant.

We continually train and authorize a growing number of certified Movement Intelligence instructors throughout North America in our suite of educational programs, which include Bones for Life, Chairs, Walk for life, Mindful Eating, and Solutions for Optimal Mobility

We have had independent research published on the effectiveness of our approach, and have attended and presented our work at numerous international conferences. A member of ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association), we seek wider recognition and acceptance in the domains of prevention and rehabilitation, namely educational and therapy settings such as schools (from primary & secondary to adult education and lifelong learning) sports and performing arts organizations, and among paramedical practitioners and facilities engaged in rehab and "pre-hab."

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
