Low-Cost Spaying and Neutering

As part of our goal to offer convenient, affordable spay and neuter opportunities for pets and reduce pet overpopulation, we work closely with Animal Control Officers and the community. We offer spay and neuter services for cats in underserved areas of King William, King and Queen and Essex Counties at no charge, or at a reduced rate, subsidized by our donors. THANK YOU DONORS!

Most of our interventions come from phone calls requesting certificates for participating veterinarians spay/neuter services.

As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce the number of cats on our streets and in shelters, Indian Rivers Humane Society (IRHS) offers fully subsidized (low to no-cost) spay/neuter surgeries for all cats, including owned cats, feral cats, trap-neuter-return (TNR) cats and community cats. In fiscal year 2023 (IRHS) serviced approximately 462 animals with spay/neuter surgeries totally over $37,971.

Population(s) Served

A further purpose of the Society shall be to place adoptable animals in responsible and permanent homes, and extend humane education to the public, reunite lost or stray pets with their owners and to place in new homes such unwanted animals using regularly scheduled advertising and other events. Indian Rivers Humane Society (IRHS ) services an average of 460 animals a year, of which many are kittens. Most are adopted out using Pet Finder, local presence like Tractor Supply Company. These critters all have one thing in common: the need to love and be loved. We strive to find forever homes for those animals that are placed in our care.

We also assist the communities by providing low income or hardship situations; certificates for low-cost spaying and neutering services at participating veterinarians. To help reduce the over population of feral animals, we perform Trap and Release operations where there are colony cats, and will have them spayed or neutered.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jun 01 - May 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990 info

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
