Mission

Wanderground Lesbian Archive/Library collects and provides access to a broad selection of New England-based publications, artifacts, and personal memorabilia from the period 1950-2000. We offer community gathering spaces in order to preserve the vibrant past of local Lesbians, encourage present-day learning and discovery, and cultivate a future of thriving Lesbian communities. Built upon the energies and pride of Lesbians, Wanderground Lesbian Archive/Library reclaims Lesbian visibility, lifts our voices, honors lived experiences, and celebrates the creativities of Lesbians. Committed to the belief that the personal is political, we gather the stories of New England Lesbians and protect legacies which might otherwise be forgotten. Archive/Library

Wanderground Lesbian Archive/Library collects and provides access to a broad selection of New England-based publications, artifacts, and personal memorabilia from the period 1950-2000.

Regional Context: Located in New England, we prioritize and collect personal items from Lesbians who have spent a significant part of their lives in the region. We also gather and preserve artifacts and papers from New England-based Lesbian organizations.

Special Collection: In addition, due to the primary interest of the Archive/Library founder, Wanderground holds a significant number of books and publications from the Women in Print* movement, and recordings from Lesbian musicians and recording companies. Therefore, we may accept donations of relevant materials to fill gaps in these collections.
* Women in Print movement: Between 1970-2000, The Women in Print Movement (WiP) of Lesbian/feminist/women-owned independent presses and bookstores provided vibrant resources and centers that shaped, informed

At this time, Wanderground does not have a permanent location to house our large collection of Lesbian materials. Currently, we “Strut Our Stuff” to encourage interest and enthusiasm for the Lesbian legacies contained in Wanderground. We offer the opportunity for pop-up events in locations around New England. In this way, Lesbians and interested individuals across the region can begin to explore the riches held in Wanderground.

As an active participant in the Women in Print movement for more than 20 years, I’ve been collecting Lesbian books, periodicals, newsletters, buttons, t-shirts, music and videos, various artworks, and so much more for 40+ years. These materials provide the starting point for Wanderground Lesbian Archive/Library. It’s time to take these from private collection into public access.
