What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Local Dog Rescue
Accepting Bamberg County dogs as well as many from surrounding counties when space and resources allow.
Animal Adoption
To find forever homes for the dogs taken in at the M.A.M.A.S. Shelter in Bamberg, SC. This is done by adopting out in a large geographic area and being able to transport the dogs to the adopters location, generally in the Mid-Atlantic and North-Eastern states.
Animal Transport to Adopters and Other Rescues
The Mary Ann Morris Animal Society started their own dog transport around 2008. With the ability to send dogs from Bamberg, South Caroline to adopters and other no-kill rescues in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states this has allowed M.A.M.A.S. to increase the number of animals they save and helped the shelter achieve and maintain the no-kill status.
Animal Transfer to other No-kill Rescues
The Mary Ann Morris Animal Society utilizes their all volunteer transport to help relocate dogs to no-kill rescues in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states this has allowed M.A.M.A.S. to increase the number of animals they save and helped the shelter achieve and maintain the no-kill status.

Financial data
Mary Ann Morris Animal Society
Balance sheetFiscal Year: Jul 01 - Jun 30
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

This snapshot of Mary Ann Morris Animal Society’s financial trends applies Nonprofit Finance Fund® analysis to data hosted by GuideStar. While it highlights the data that matter most, remember that context is key – numbers only tell part of any story.

Shelter Director
Ruthie Rish
Ruthie Rish has been involved with the shelter since 2007, after visiting with Bob Spinazzola, a fellow board member, and seeing the great need. She started as a volunteer and now is the shelter’s Director of Operations, Rescue Coordinator, and current President of the Board.
Ruthie has seen many improvements to the shelter throughout the years – all for the good, but is saddened by the few changes the community has had with regards to responsible pet ownership. She hopes to see bigger strides in this area in the future.
In her spare time, Ruthie enjoys spending time with her two children, Michael and Cam; her two horses, Tonka and Toast; four dogs – Mikey, Ray, Blake and Belle – all adopted from the shelter, and two cats – Buddy and Sunny.
