Board president
Rhonda Cummins
Rhonda Cummins is the founding board president of the Point Comfort Seafarers Center, an ecumenical outreach to assist the international and domestic mariners visiting the deep-water port in Point Comfort. This effort began in 2019 after her retirement from the Texas A&M Extension Service where she faithfully served as the Calhoun County Marine Extension Agent for eleven years.
A former Texas public school teacher and scuba instructor, Ms. Cummins held a US Coast Guard 200 Ton Master’s License and Able Bodied Seaman certificate for many years. Her maritime experience included fishing and diving charter boats, a river paddle-wheel boat and five historical sailing vessels. She sailed parts of the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Hawaii, the West Coast, three of the Great Lakes, as well as the lower Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. She received a Master’s degree in Marine Resources Management from Texas A&M University in May 2008.
