What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Landform Maintenance
DBR strives to proactively strengthen and preserve the barrier beach through annual maintenance including dune renourishment and repair, cobble berm restoration, fertilization, planting beach grass and woody vegetation and fencing.
Coastal Ecology Program
Protecting the natural ecology of the barrier beach is a complicated task. It requires balancing the needs of many individual projects as well as the needs of coastal resilience work and recreation. The Coastal Ecology Program is made up of several ongoing projects:
Vegetation Planting and Management - With the impacts of climate change becoming more prevalent, dune renourishment and planting events are likely to be frequent and necessary projects.
Endangered Species Program - The Reservation's Coastal Ecology Program staff manages the federal and state guidelines for nesting piping plovers and least terns
Species Inventory - The Reservation hopes to track this data seasonally and over several years to learn more about which species use Duxbury Beach.
Duxbury Beach Park
Duxbury Beach Park is located at the northern end of the Duxbury Beach Reservation's property and is open Memorial Day until Labor Day. Blakeman's Pavillion (managed by a third party) offers showers and restroom facilities along with casual dining. Beach goers enjoy walks, watch birds, and engage in various sporting activities on both the bay side and ocean side.
Coastal Resilience Program
Duxbury Beach Reservation strives to proactively to strengthen the barrier beach through annual maintenance and large-scale analysis, planning, and construction work. Working with Woods Hole Group, an environmental engineering and consulting firm, DBR has developed a list of projects ranging from beach and dune renourishment to salt marsh restoration. These projects are in varying stages of conception, permitting, planning, and fundraising. The newest project is to plan and permit for restoration work on a large scale. This will allow flexibility and fast action as priority areas shift and funding for construction becomes available.

Balance sheetFiscal Year: Nov 01 - Oct 31
SOURCE: IRS Form 990
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
