Notes from the nonprofit

WHATS NEW FOR 2024 Our goals for 2024 have grown! We now have five electric-assist bikes, and our goal is to get one more bike, which will bring it to six. This will make our fleet complete. We will have one of the largest fleets of electric assist Chat bikes in Wisconsin. With six bikes we will increase our touch points from 1,700 rides in 2023 to 2,700 in 2024 and eventually 3,400 rides. All rides are FREE. We are also looking for more locations to take the bikes to provide additional rides. We plan to expand the rides to later in the day, and possibly weekends, to accommodate the schedules of more pilots and open the rides up to more passengers. A third program is being initiated called Silent Hush Movies, a program specifically designed for individuals in the dementia and autism spectrum. We have begun establishing intergenerational communications with high schools to promote better understanding and promote less stigma throughout the communities.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Cycling Without Age

The Cycling Without Age program has many benefits including educational, social, and health. As the bikes are driven by volunteer pilots, this will give the seniors an opportunity to build relationships with the pilots and typically passengers provide an education about the area they are riding in. It will also give them the opportunity to interact with other community members, which leads to social stimulation and improved mental health. It is also mentioned that participants have a greater awareness of environment. The confinement in their homes and allows them to be outdoors, and decreases isolation and increases disability recovery, self-care and confidence. For those with Dementia, it is extremely important for them go outdoors more often, as it increases their cognitive capacity. Along with the fact that increased contact with nature can increase immunity against illnesses, the benefits are endless as proven by a study from the University of Southern Denmark.
