Building Bonds Retreat
First long weekend in June we bring together 10-12 surviving Gold Star young adults to relax and make friendships with others who understand their loss. While experiencing fun activities that may push them a bit out of their comfort zone, we also give them a lot of down time to just hang out and build those unbreakable bonds. Homemade meals will be provided at the lodging, but a final dinner will be held together out in town. A guest motivational speaker will be present to have open discussions and to encourage them on their walk with healing. All expenses are covered except for travel. A $100 refundable deposit will be asked for to hold the spot.

I was married to an Army Officer until 2016 when he was tragically killed in the LOD while saving a couple on the highway trapped after an auto accident. I have been fortunate to have my dream job as a stay-at-home mother for 12 years, now with two Gold Star daughters. I have been blessed to find a Gold Star widow community that now is an extended family of mine, but after realizing there was a major shortage of support for our aged-out Gold Star surviving young adults, I knew someone needed to create an avenue for them to meet and build those bonds that they can only understand. I had this vision of bringing a small group together, have a couple fun bounding activities, share with them that while walking in their hero's footsteps they can create their our path, and allowing them to build those relationships that become family. Then The Precious Legacy was born, and I feel so honored to have founded an organization that gives back to our fallen's legacies.

I am a paraprofessional for Exceptional Education at my local school. I have two boys that are Gold Star children. Their dad passed away while he was active duty army. This has been very hard on our family. We are active in a few different organizations for children of fallen soldiers, but after Amber shared her vision with me of starting a nonprofit for Gold Star young adults who were 19-24, I knew this was something that was needed since there weren't many resources for aged out survivors. I was honored to be asked to be on the board and help with The Precious Legacy. My hope is that the young adults that come to The Precious Legacy will find support and friendships that will help them throughout their grief journey.
