Mission

The mission of Hounds in Pounds (HIP), is to end the daily killing of thousands of adoptable dogs in the United States. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New Jersey and Georgia, relying 100% on donations. HIP has a multi-faceted approach to achieving our mission, combining rescue, adoption, spay/neuter outreach, and public education. Dogs rescued by Hounds in Pounds are transported to private veterinarians for proper medical treatment. They are vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested for heartworm before being placed into new, loving homes. We work as a team, communicating from sunrise to sundown to manage the many moving pieces that make our work successful.

Death Row Dogs

One of the Hounds in Pound's most treasured tag lines is #dogood because we believe that by helping our co-rescuers, we can make an even more significant impact and save even more lives from death row, especially with our shelter partners, POLK COUNTY or CLAYTON Shelter, both in very rural and impoverished parts of Georgia. 83 of every 100 dogs we save are directly from DEATH ROW from POLK COUNTY, and most are now living their best lives.

We are a 501c3 organization that relies solely on donations. Your contribution makes a life-saving difference in saving a dog from death row and providing them with the urgent medical care they

Population(s) Served

Hounds in Pounds was formed as a rescue with the mission and life-saving motivation to partner with very rural and poor shelters to save dogs from death row specifically and to help provide the shelters with funding to operate even on a fundamental level.

We are improving shelter conditions for resident dogs in our partner shelters– by providing food, vaccines, disinfectant supplies, and system (Wishy Wash systems) to prevent the spread of Parvo.

Balance sheet

Fiscal Year: Jan 01 - Dec 31

SOURCE: IRS Form 990

The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot survive long, but the types of assets and liabilities must also be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan, and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

President

Cat Suzuki

My name is Cat Suzuki and I am the founder and President of Hounds in Pounds. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for being part of our journey to end the daily killing of thousands of adoptable dogs in the United States. This work has changed my life in unimaginable ways. Hounds in Pounds is a nonprofit rescue founded in 2015 as a grassroots organization. We expected to save a few dogs. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the horrors that we would be facing, the overcrowded shelters where thousands of dogs are being euthanized, the horrific cases of abuse and neglect that we are asked to save, and the heroism of our team of vets and volunteers who give everything they’ve got to save our dogs. We quickly learned that to do this work, we could not sit on the sidelines; we had to throw ourselves in heart and soul, always putting the dogs first. Now six years later, we have rescued thousands of dogs and have become the voice for the voiceless.

Data
  • We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
Policies and processes
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
