What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

FLMCC was founded to provide assistance with urgent basic needs for families and elders whose financial situation puts them at risk of losing heating (in winter), electricity, food resources and other basic living requirements, after all other resources and programs have been exhausted. Our services aim to help such persons bridge the gap between available sources of income (paycheck, SS income, etc.) and ensure that their children or elders are not in any physical danger due to the loss of such resources.

Emergency Heating and Propane Fund

This fund is destined to meet short-term emergency heating needs for families with children and elders whose financial situation does not allow them to ensure their winter heating expenses and who are unable to obtain other assistance. To this end, FLMCC will make a one-time payment, in full or in part as funds allow, directly to the heating or propane supplier. Recipients are accepted on a first-come, first served basis with priority given to families with small children and to the elderly.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Provide a source of assistance that low-income families can turn to in times of dire need, e.g. in winter when the temperature is below zero and the propane for heating is running out. We also want to make sure as many kids as possible from low-income families are ensured basic scholastic supplies.

We use social media to raise awareness about these issues and our cause, and thus to be able to assist families as far as our funds allow.

We are very small, so we mainly use social media, the occasional fundraising event, and personal contacts to spread our message and meet our goals.

Since 2012 we have helped several hundred people with warm winter clothing and heating assistance. Our school supplies program assisted 35 children with basic school supplies and book bags in 2017. and 50 in 2018. We also provided heating assistance to a dozen families and 100 warm hats to needy individuals in 2017 and 2018.

Our work isn't a set project that is run from A to Z - its about being ready to assist whenever we are informed of an urgent, short-term need.

Data
  • We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
